6TH ANNUAL TAXATION CONFERENCE

1ST INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS CONFERENCE

The American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce organized the 1st INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS Conference which took place at the Grande Bretagne Hotel, on January 26, 2010.

The conference focused on the Measures and Recent Developments in the Intellectual Property Law Enforcement, the IPR Infringement Policy for the Protection of the World Economy and the Enterprises Strategy and Policy for the Protection of the IPR Rights.

The conference was attended by two hundred people including practitioners, policy-makers and executives and aimed to encourage collaboration and create a platform of information and recommendations.

New Year’s Reception in Thessaloniki

The American–Hellenic Chamber of Commerce organized its annual New Year’s Reception with guest of honor, Consul General of the United States in Thessaloniki Catherine E. Kay, on February 1, 2010 at the Thessaloniki Hyatt Regency Hotel.

The event, attended by two hundred people, brought together Chamber members, organization presidents, and other prominent executives of the business community, and a relaxed, networking event was enjoyed by all who attended.

The American Hellenic Chamber of Commerce organized a working breakfast meeting with Louka Katseli, Minister of Economy, Competitiveness and Shipping, on December 3, 2009 in New York with prominent American businessman and selective members of the press.

INNOVATION AND EDUCATION: PARTNERS FOR BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

The American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce and its Innovation and Education Committee organized, with great success, the conference Innovation & Education: Partners for Business Development, on November 10, 2009 at the Hotel Grand Bretagne in Athens.

The pioneering conference established a strong forum for the promotion of innovation, education, and lifelong learning, with the exchange of new ideas and the presentation of effective practices implemented in the private and public sectors by conference speakers.

The President of the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Yanos Gramatidis, and the President of the Innovation and Education Committee, Ms. Litsa Panayotopoulos, opened the conference.

Οι πρόεδροι των 5 διμερών Επιμελητηρίων, του Ελληνο-Αμερικανικού Εμπορικού Επιμελητηρίου, του Ελληνο-Βρετανικού Εμπορικού Επιμελητηρίου, του Ελληνο-Γαλλικού Εμπορικού και Βιομηχανικού Επιμελητηρίου, του Ελληνο-Γερμανικού Εμπορικού και Βιομηχανικού Επιμελητηρίου και του Ελληνο-Ιταλικού Επιμελητηρίου, παρουσίασαν σε έκτακτη συνέντευξη τύπου, την Τρίτη 22 Σεπτεμβρίου 2009, μια μελέτη με τίτλο "Η Ελληνική Οικονομία σε αναζήτηση στρατηγικής, άξονες και δράσεις μιας μεταρρυθμιστικής πολιτικής", για το μέλλον της Ελληνικής οικονομίας με βραχυπρόθεσμα όσο και μακροπρόθεσμα μέτρα.

Η σχετική μελέτη, που υπογράφεται από τον Καθηγητή Οικονομικών του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών κ. Γιάννη Στουρνάρα, Επιστημονικό Διευθυντή του ΙΟΒΕ και τον κ. Νίκο Βρεττό, Διευθύνοντα Σύμβουλο της The Boston Consulting Group, περιλαμβάνει τα συμπεράσματα που προέκυψαν από τις εκδηλώσεις των Επιμελητηρίων με τίτλο “Το Μέλλον της Ελληνικής Οικονομίας: Σε Αναζήτηση Στρατηγικής”

AMCHAM WELCOMES NEW U.S. CONSUL GENERAL IN THESSALONIKI AND U.S ECONOMIC AND COMMERCIAL COUNSELORS

The American - Hellenic Chamber of Commerce is pleased to welcome three new American diplomats to Greece: U.S. Consul General in Thessaloniki Catherine Kay, U.S. Economic Counselor Paul Malik, and U.S. Commercial Counselor David McNeill.

The Chamber wishes them every success in their new assignments and looks forward to a strong collaboration in further strengthening Greece-U.S. business relations.

AMCHAM BECOMES A MEMBER OF THE COALITION FOR INNOVATION, EMPLOYMENT AND DEVELOPMENT (CIED)

The American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce has recently joined the Coalition for Innovation, Employment and Development (CIED).

The Coalition for Innovation, Employment and Development (CIED) is committed to championing the role of innovation in driving job creation and developing breakthrough solutions to global challenges. This internationally diverse group is working to bring industry, labor, consumer and environmental groups together to address challenges ranging from health care and renewable energy, to climate change and other various issues.

SUGGESTED ACTIONS FOR THE FUTURE OF THE GREEK ECONOMY

The Presidents of five bilateral Chambers of Commerce (American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce, British Hellenic Chamber of Commerce, French Chamber of Commerce and Industry, German Hellenic Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Italian Chamber of Commerce) met on Tuesday, September 15, with the President of PASOK Party, George Papandreou, and presented to Mr. Papandreou a five Chamber special publication that details a series of suggestions on how the Greek economy can best manage its exodus from today’s economic crisis.

The publication was also presented to the Minister of Economy and Finance, John Papathanassiou, and to the Governor of the Bank of Greece, George Provopoulos.

NON-IMMIGRANT VISA CALL CENTER

This public announcement is being issued to inform U.S. citizens that the U.S. Embassy in Athens, Greece is now utilizing a user-pay call center to answer non-immigrant visa inquiries and to schedule non-immigrant visa interview appointments.

US BENEFITS FOR US RESIDENTS IN GREECE

Greek residents receiving federal benefits from the United States will have the option, beginning this month, of having those benefits deposited directly into a U.S. dollar account, according to a press release issued by the U.S. Embassy on Thursday.
